It seems like we’re usually good for one snow day a year, but we’ve actually been hit with a couple of them this year. Yesterday evening, after a day full of driving rain, the rain turned to snow and thus began a gentle snowfall that lasted well into the night.
Local schools called classes off for the day and many businesses opened late. While it wasn’t the biggest snow storm we’ve ever experienced here in Rock Hill SC, it was enough to cause some problems such as power outtages, traffic accidents, and parents wondering what to do with their kids for the day.
Here’s a quick list of tips for dealing with the occasional snow and/or ice we get here in the Rock Hill SC area.
Winter Driving:
- Slow down
- Don’t tailgate
- Allow more distance than you think you’d need when stopping
- Pay close attention to areas in the shade because this is where ice is likely to form
- Stop slowly – if you have ABS brakes, simply hold the pedal down firmly. If you DON’T have ABS brakes, pump the brake slowly
Keeping Warm in the Cold:
- Dress in several layers and wear a waterproof/windproof outer shell
- Wear a hat to conserve body heat and keep your feet and hands dry
- Avoid over-exhursion
Coping Without Power:
- Stay away from downed power lines or anything touching a downed power line
- Don’t stand under ice-laden power lines
- Don’t open freezers or refrigerators more frequently than necessary
- Never bring a charcoal grill or stove indoors for heat or cooking as the CO gas can be deadly

Our very own Fort Mill SC was recently named to Business Week magazine’s “Best Affordable Suburbs” list.
According to the entry found on Business Week’s website:
“Fort Mill, SC, just south of the North Carolina border and 18 miles from Charlotte, is home to the Charlotte Knights’ baseball stadium. About 36% of residents are married with children. The average commute is 22 minutes.”

One of my goals with this blog is to provide readers and visitors to the Rock Hill SC or Fort Mill SC areas with insight into this great area we live in. And one of the most important things that can make an area even better is good restaurants. Well, at least I think so.
Anyway, I’ve posted several reviews of some great local restaurants my husband and I have found, but I’d like to know what you think.
What are some of your favorite, small, hometown restaurants in either Rock Hill SC or Fort Mill SC?
What do you like about them? What’s your favorite dish? Are the prices reasonable?
Leave your comment below and share your thoughts and chances are I’ll pass along your recommendation to my clients, prospects, fellow real estate agents, and readers of my blog.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The magical season for the hometown Carolina Panthers will continue this Saturday at 8:15pm at Bank of America Stadium as the Arizona Cardinals roll into town on the heels of their defeat of the rival Atlanta Falcons on Saturday. The Panthers secured a first round bye and home field advantage by virtue of their season ending victory over the New Orleans Saints in their last game of the regular season and now it’s onto the ‘second season’ as many people call it.
It’s pretty exciting to have the NFL Playoffs coming to town and the Panther’s have a pretty good track record in the post-season. The team has previously hosted 2 playoff games at home here in Charlotte, NC and have come out on top in both of those contests. Those were pretty sweet victories as well because they were over the much-hated (at least in my household) Dallas Cowboys.
Even though it won’t be the Cowboys coming to town, the Cardinals will still present a pretty tough match-up, but I think our Panthers are up to the task of showing these birds just how smash-mouth football is suppossed to be played.
My prediction for the game:Â Panthers 28 – Cardinals 14

Beginning this Thursday, December 4th, Christmasville will return to downtown Rock Hill, SC. If you’re not familiar with it, Christmasville is a 4 day celebration of the Christmas holiday and it involves many of Rock Hill’s downtown and local businesses.
As stated on the Christmasville website,
“Did you ever open a storybook and want to step inside? Or dream of a simpler time – filled with music and merriment and festive folks brimming with good cheer? If so, then bundle up the family and become part of the whimsical world of Vernon Grant!
Once again this December the Main Streets of Old Town, in historic downtown Rock Hill, SC, will come alive as a charming, picturesque holiday village and outdoor walking art festival. ChristmasVille celebrates the art of adopted Rock Hill son, Vernon Grant, who is the artist of the famed Kellogg’s Rice Krispies characters Snap! Crackle! Pop!, cousins of ChristmasVille’s Grant the Gnome.”
Events kick off on Thursday at 9am and run almost continuously through Sunday at 9pm when the last event, the Journey to Bethlehem which is an interactive walk-through of the entire Christmas story, wraps up.
So, if you’re looking for some ways to kick off your Christmas season the right way, you definitely don’t want to miss the festivities this weekend at Rock Hill’s Christmasville 2008!
